OUR MARCH 7TH CONCERT

WITH JEAN MARTIN

    Jean Martin at Woodhall Spa

After an interval of 8 years we were delighted to welcome Jean Martyn back to play for us in Woodhall Spa. A large audience of over 60 people had gathered for this event and they were not disapointed. Jean played a very varied programme starting as she was in Bomber Command County with "The Dambusters" March, quickly followed by "Lady in Red" and the "Robins Return".  Following a rousing audience countdown we were treated to "Thunderbirds are Go". A trip to Blackpool was next with a rousing medley of Theatre Organ music. She then treated us to the medley she played for her "Britain's Got Talent" appearance back in 2011. She wound up her first half with a superb medley of Church Organ music.

A trip to the Opera opened the second half with Rossini's Overture to "The Barber of Seville" swiftly followed by Dave Brubeck's "Take 5" and "New York, New York". Her famous Marches on a Windy Day followed, which is a very clever selection of parts of 32 Marches cleverly making up this medley which assumes the Band's music has been blown from the music stands and put back in random order. Jean had a request from the audience to play a simple melody so she played "3 Blind Mice" in a most amazing improvised selection made up as she went along - wonderful! Her very well received performance drew to a close with a selection from "West Side Story".

It was a truly memorable evening leaving the audience asking when can we see her again!.

Our concert next month will be given by Elizabeth Harrison and is on Friday 4th April, 2025 at 7.30pm at Coronation Hall, Spa Road. Woodhall Spa, LN10 6PZ. We look forward to seeing you all.
