OUR JULY 5th CONCERT WITH
CHRIS STANBURY
Chris Stanbury at Woodhall Spa
July 5th saw a good sized audience gathered to hear our concert featuring Chris Stanbury. As always Chris gave us a superb evening of music covering a really wide range of genres.
He started the evening with the theme tune to the long running Radio show "Top of the Pops", which brought back many memories for lots of people. Moving to light classical he played "The Thunder and Lightning" Polka by Strauss and then we were off to "The Sound of Music" medley. He played a very memory evoking section devoted to really old radio themes which included "Nellie the Elephant", the "Coronation Scott" (Paul Temple), "The Devil's Gallop" (Dick Barton) and many many more. We were then treated to a medley of music associated with Max Bygraves which included "Pink Toothbrush", "Things Ain't What They Used to Be" and "You Need Hands". Some Latin American in the form of "Tico, Tico" followed and the first half concluded with a medley of 1950's music.
The second half was equally varied with some Rock and Roll, romantic rumbas, Dusty Springfield, and a great rendering of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". He took advantage of the camera trained on his feet to play Ted Heath's version of "Hot Toddy" which included some very impressive foot pedal work. It was a really great evening of music which was hugely appreciated by the audience.
Next month we welcome back the highly talented musician Phil Brown who can't fail to guarantee us a great evening of lovely music and entertainment. The concert takes place on Friday August 2nd. starting at 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming you all to Coronation Hall, Woodhall Spa.
