“Music for Woodhall”

President Nicholas Martin B.E.M.

On Friday 3rd September the Woodhall Spa & District Organ Society presented its first “Music for Woodhall” concert for 18 long months at the new venue of Coronation Hall. An audience of some 66 people assembled to hear our President Nicholas Martin B.E.M. play this special concert. The atmosphere was electric as Nick gave us a real evening to remember of beautiful music of all styles. He opened with a swinging “In the Mood” medley, followed by “Once Upon a Time in the West” which was accompanied by suitable film clips. Then there were Theatre Organ medleys, the “Second Waltz” by Shostakovitch, a Latin American medley, “The Conquest of Paradise” and so much more. The first half concluded with a breath taking arrangement of “The Warsaw Concerto”. The superb music continued in the second half with “The Blue Danube Waltz”, a TV Themes medley, some more Blackpool Theatre Organ medleys and concluded with a finger twisting medley of “The Sabre Dance”, the Intermezzo from “Cavalleria Rusticana”, then the Czardas, “The Holy City” and Nick’s very clever adaptation of Tiger Rag with more than a touch of Vidor!

The audience loved it and we couldn’t have had a better opening for our new concert season. Live music is definitely back and alive in Woodhall Spa!
