OUR AUGUST CONCERT WITH
A good sized audience turned out for our August concert with Jon Smith. Jon played
a great evening of very varied music in his own inimitable style. He opened the evening
with a Nat King Cole medley, or "muddly" as he calls them! There was then some music
from the Kurt Wunderlich era. He had his Yamaha Genos intrument as well as the Yamaha
Stagea and he played a number of piano pieces on the Genos during the evening. The
first of these interludes included "Misty" followed by a Dusty Springfield number
and concluding with "Sway". We then turned to the Theatre Organ and a medley which
included "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." He concluded his first half with
appropriately "Tea for Two".
The second half got off to a rousing start with a great performance of "Sweet Caroline"
as part of a big band medley. There followed a couple of lovely Tangos before we
had another session on the piano with "You'll Never Know" and "It had to be You"
and a dedication to our audience of "Young at Heart"! We were then treated to some
spontaneous Country Music. More piano music followed with "I Didn't Want to do it"
and "Love Letters in the Sand" and "Tiger Rag". A Latin American medley was followed
by Jon singing "I've Got You Under My Skin" as he played the piano and he concluded
the evening singing "Unchained Melody" as per Elvis in the current film "Elvis".
It really was a great evening's entertainment which was greatly appreciated by our
